The Languages of Art, Music – and English

Students at the Texas Intensive English Program (TIEP) enjoy art and music as they learn English in Austin.

Recently, Hwang Jae Heon from Korea enjoyed viewing a sculpture of the mythical Greek character Icarus on an outing to the city’s well-known Umlauf Sculpture Garden.

And Yoshihiro Ozaki from Japan presented a cello concert to students, faculty and visitors. “Poppo,” as he is known to his friends at TIEP, accompanied his concert with stories about his instrument and the selections he had chosen. “This composition lets light into your heart. I like to imagine swans – or you can just look at me,” he laughed as he introduced one piece.

A TIEP student since March, Poppo also is enrolled in the University Express program as he prepares to seek admission to an American university.
