Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi is located in the lively gulf coast city of Corpus Christi. The University, located on a 240-acre island campus, is surrounded by the warm waters of Cayo del Oso and Corpus Christi Bays just 10 miles from downtown. TAMU-CC's modern facilities include student computer laboratories, several auditoriums, a library featuring a collection of over 850,000 books, periodicals, microfilm units and serial titles, an arts and communication center, several working research institutes, plus specialized centers such as the National Spill Control School. The University's academic curriculum is divided among four colleges: Arts and Humanities; Business; Education; and Science and Technology. These four colleges offer a total of 54 bachelors, masters and doctoral degree programs in addition to numerous teacher certification and continuing education programs. Among the University's pre-professional program offerings are Pre-Dentistry, Pre-Medical, Pre-Veterinary, Pre-Optometry and Pre-Law. Given its location as an international port city with free trade zone status, Corpus Christi and its university are very internationally aware. The University curriculum offers multi-disciplinary concentrations in several areas including Ethnic Studies, focusing on various ethnic groups, with courses in history, communication, cultural awareness and politics.
