Located in south Texas is Texas A&M International University (TAMIU), one of three TIEC universities that is in a Texas city bordering the Republic of Mexico. TAMIU is an upper-level (junior and senior) and graduate-level institution of 1,150 students with multiple degree programs organized under four divisions: Arts and Sciences, Business Administration, Teacher Education and Psychology, and Graduate Studies. Utilizing the opportunities of this principal U.S. port city of entry into Mexico, TAMIU is commended for its MBA in International Trade. The University is situated in the city of Laredo, which is one of the oldest cities in the United States and has a current population of 90,000 people. TAMIU maintains memoranda of agreement with La Universidad Regiomontana and La Universidad Autonoma de Tamaulipas for Mexico for faculty and student exchanges, research cooperation and business research. The University cooperated with La Universidad Autonoma de Tamaulipas in 1986 to sponsor a conference on GATT in Mexico. Representatives from Mexico, Switzerland and the U.S. attended. The University also collaborated with El Comite para el Desarrollo Industrial de Nuevo Laredo and the Laredo Development Foundation to organize a conference addressing the Maquiladora Industry.
