Sam Houston State University is located on a beautiful 211-acre main campus in Huntsville, Texas. Huntsville, with a population of 30,000 is located 70 miles north of Houston in the serene hills and extensive pine forest area of East Texas. The University has a student body of over 12,500 and offers 91 undergraduate programs, 76 graduate programs and a doctoral program in criminal justice. There are four colleges: Arts and Sciences, Business Administration, Education and Applied Science, and Criminal Justice, with a total tenure/tenure track faculty of 329 of whom 9l% hold doctoral or terminal degrees. The University has 177 buildings, 34 residence halls, five recreational sports fields, two agricultural complexes, a cable television and radio station, a planetarium, an observatory, a weather station, the 15-acre Sam Houston Memorial Museum Complex and an on-campus university hotel. The University is currently working with several countries to develop international programs.
