Lamar University (LU) is located in Beaumont, Texas, one of the world's largest petrochemical centers. Beaumont is one of the most progressive cities in the Sunbelt with a current population of 115,000. The city is convenient to the major recreational facilities of Southeast Texas including the Gulf of Mexico, large lakes, and the Big Thicket National Preserve. LU offers its 8,500 students undergraduate degree programs in Arts and Sciences, Business, Education and Human Development, Engineering, Fine Arts and Communication. Lamar's College of Graduate Studies offers masters programs in Business Administration, Computer Science, Engineering, and about 20 other fields in education, social studies, fine arts, communication disorders, and the sciences and humanities as well as doctoral degrees in Engineering and Deaf Education. In addition to Consortium activities, LU faculty have worked with colleagues in China, the Middle East, and Mexico in the areas of speech pathology, audiology and deaf education.
