The University of Houston-Downtown is an ethnically diverse, student-oriented institution dedicated to excellence in teaching and to providing a supportive environment for its 7,900 students. UHD is a four-year institution offering Bachelor of Science degrees in: General Studies (Humanities, Social and Natural Sciences, and Mathematics); Applied Mathematical Sciences (Computer Science, Applied Math, Quantitative Methods), Criminal Justice; Engineering Technology (Electrical/Electronics Design, Process and Piping Design, and Structural Analysis and Design); and Business Management and Administrative Services (General Business, Accounting, Financial Institutions and Business Computer Information Systems, Purchasing and Materials Management, Real Estate, Petroleum Land Management, and Office Management); Natural Sciences (Industrial Chemistry, Applied Microbiology). The University continues its strong emphasis on pre-professional education. Its mission includes the development of carefully selected career-oriented degree programs which prepare students for entry into the industrial and business community or graduate and professional school.
